I am planning to write the next few posts to show you how you can setup a farm with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 – from scratch! I am currently working with Windows 7 with Virtual PC. I will be using only Virtual PCs and I intend to create four machines as follows… DC – This will be my Domain Controller and SQL Server. WFE1 – First Web Front End. I will also configure NLB on the same machine. WFE2 – Second Web Front End. AS – My Application Server that contains Indexing and ot... [More]

DYK #1 - PSConfigUI default behavior

by rahul 12/2/2008 3:14:36 AM
In SharePoint, when you run the Post Setup configuration tool, you might have noticed that it works differently for Single server scenario vs. Farm scenario. How does the PSConfigUI decide the steps that needs to be taken? The answer is pretty simple, Registry Keys. The PSConfigUI reads the following keys in order to determine the correct mode in which it should run. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\WSS SETUPTYPE = {CLEAN_INSTALL | REPAIR | V2V_INPLAC... [More]

By default, it is <Logging Type="verbose" Path="%temp%" Template="Office Server Setup(*).log"/> wh... [More]

by rahul 9/24/2008 11:07:33 AM
I was learning to develop a feature in Sharepoint, and started with Inside Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 by Tedd Pattison. It is a really awesome book. But this post is about a problem which really frustrated me and I ended up wasting some precious minutes struggling over a non-issue. I was in chapter 1, and I started copying/pasting the code to get a feel of how the features work. In the end, when I was supposed to see my code in action, I started getting this… Now, you can’t bl... [More]

by rahul 9/17/2008 3:51:03 AM
Have you joined the Sharepoint bandwagon yet? Well, I have… and if you have not, may be you should devote another hour or so, and that would be a time well spent. Start with this since this was one of the links that really got me started , and just for the records… I am not a sales guy! But I guess, even a technology guy is awestruck when he hears something like… 1 Billion USD in revenue! 75% of Fortune 100 adapting it!! Fastest growing server product in Microsoft history!!!  etc. et... [More]
