This post is a bit off the track to my usual IIS topics. I am not a big fan of desktop search software's and I don’t like unwanted software's hogging on my memory or CPU. I have heard a lot of good things about this Instant Search in Outlook and though I will go ahead and enable it.
Today when searching for some text in my Microsoft Outlook 2010 beta, I saw “Click here to enable Instant Search”.
Clicked on the notification bar and that popped out a message
Looks like I don’t have Windows Search Service installed on my machine.
So, open Server Manager –> click on Roles –> click Add Roles –> click File Services under Select Server Roles
Click Next twice and under Select Role Services select Windows Search Service –> click Next
Do not select any volumes to index as that could affect the performance of your machine.
Click Next –> click Install.
Once Windows Search Service is installed, I launched Microsoft Outlook Professional 2010 Beta again.. this time it prompted me with a location C:\MSOCache\All Users\<some guid> and it was looking for ProPlusWW.msi.
I checked my C drive, I found C:\MSOCache\All Users folder but no “GUID folder” in their.
Luckily, I had Microsoft Office Setup file with me “en_office_professional_plus_2010_beta_x86_x16-19227.exe” from MSDN. I ran the executable and the executable extracted the files in my Temp folder. I have User and System Environment Variables for TMP and Temp set to C:\Temp folder.
Do not click on Continue button in Office setup screen. Looked into the Temp folder and looked for a folder that had most recent time. I found a folder OWP9884.tmp, which had all the Microsoft Office extracted files. You can also use Process Monitor to see where Office setup is extracting the files.
Selected the location in the prompt which was asking for ProPlusWW.msi and click OK
It then prompted me for Office64WW.msi which was again in that C:\Temp\OWP9884.tmp\ProPlus.WW folder –> click OK and the setup completed.
Alternately, you can use the “/?” to see the usage options on the en_office_professional_plus_2010_beta_x86_x16-19227.exe file.
Use the /extract:path to extract all the files in a folder. Example en_office_professional_plus_2010_beta_x86_x16-19227.exe /extract:E:\Office. This will extract files in E:\Office folder which you can use later if Office prompts you for some installer files.
Hope this helps,
