In part 1 of this series, I provided the BaseLine counter set for Windows 2k3. To close this loop for Win 2008, I am providing one more set of baseline counters for IIS.
Download the following template and extract the XML file - IIS-BaseLine-Win-2k8.zip.

Start –> Run –> Perfmon
Right click on Data Collector Sets –> User Defined –> Select New –> Data Collector Set
Give a name, and ensure Create from a template is selected. Click Next.
Select System Performance. Click Browse button. Select the XML template that you extracted and click Ok.
Click Next.
Choose the output directory. Since the Performance Log can capture a lot of data, you may decide to change the path of your log file to the drive that has enough space. Click Next.
IMPORTANT - Select Open properties for this data collector set. Click Finish.
You will see the following screen… tweak it if necessary.
Switch back to Perfmon. Right click on DataCollector1 and click Properties
VERY IMPORTANT > You will see the following screen. If you are trying to troubleshoot an issue with high CPU usage or hang, let everything be as it is (reduce the interval if required to 15 seconds). If the issue is not related to CPU usage and you just want to baseline the performance of your IIS Server, I would recommend to select Thread in the screen below and click Remove. This is mainly because this counter will collect a lot of data.
Right click on IIS BaseLine and select Start.
You are all set. It’s that easy. Follow part 3 for analysis of BLG file you have thus created.
Happy Troubleshooting
